Pre-Filtered Binderless Glass Microfiber

The MultiDensity™ product platform now includes this easy to use, thinner1 binderless glass microfiber filter which retains solids in a broad size range.  Larger solids become entrapped on the built in pre-filter layer allowing the multiple density zones of filter to entrap finer solids rapidly and reliably.  This yields a faster flow rate with higher fluidic capacity.  The borosilicate glass is highly resistive to aggressive solvents, acids2 and base with a usable range of 0-14pH and a wide effective temperature range of -200 to 500°C. 3

Borosilicate Glass Microfiber Filter Media

D-23® Whole Blood Separation Media

The Grade D-23® is a point of care diagnostics borosilicate glass microfiber filter media containing a proprietary acrylic binder system. This customizable material represents a platform of product variants. The base glass media is supplied ready for your application of chemistries. When supplied as a whole blood separator a novel coating technology is utilized which yields high quality plasma with surprising efficacy and no red cell Hemolysis . The coated version material has been developed by a CRO in the United States whose specialty is blood separation and device development. This market proven media is currently included as a component in successfully commercialized and patented devices with 510K filings.

This naturally hydrophilic material demonstrates high uniformity in formation and density allowing reliable migration rates, in both cross and lateral flow applications. With little caliper deviation the media is ideal for challenging lamination applications and micro fluidic devices.

Uniform screen & felt sides with consistent density MD/CD - This media demonstrates excellent lot-to-lot reproducibility - CofC and CofA provided with shipments – Manufactured in an FDA approved facility and available as rolls, reels, sheets and semi-finished converted configurations in both pre and post coated versions.

This media is available as a base glass microfiber which performs basic whole blood separation via precisely engineered porosity and fiber matrix. In this configuration the material demonstrates plasma yield of approximately 15% by volume at nominal Hct range. It is suitable for both lateral and cross flow configurations and is highly consistent in density and caliper for application of your own micro-coating and dip/dry saturation chemistry.

The D23® series of whole blood separating material is currently available in a total of 8 different iterations.

The material in basic form (commonly referred to as “base glass”) separates the plasma strictly through precision filtration and capillary flow:.  Six versions of the blood separation media containing proprietary agglutinating chemistry coating are also available. In this coated version this material demonstrates plasma yield >40%.

Binderless Glass Microfiber Filter

NanoGF™ Grade A-83:

NanoGF™ Grade A-83: Imagine the loading capacity of a binderless glass microfiber filter with the tightly regulated pore size of a microfiltration membrane.

Now it's possible with NanoGF™ Grade A83.

This new grade has a particle retention of 0.5µm.
It has >20x loading capacity of an equivalent porosity MCE or CN membrane and >15x the flow rate.

Back pressure is nearly non-existent in comparison to surface membranes.

Chemically inert, pure binderless borosilicate glass with no sizing additives or other surfactants. Low background noise in LC/GC/MS and very low extractables in presence of aggressive solvents.

There are many filter materials which make the claim of "nano-scale" fiber, but Grade A83 is tested by an independent laboratory using the latest in fiber analysis and SEM image quantification.

With >85% of the fiber content between 300nm -100nm, this material is truly one of the highest surface area binderless glass microfiber products on the market today.

Binderless Filter Medium

B-85

This is a binderless, high efficiency (HEPA type) filter medium demonstrating retention rates of 1-2µm with high flow rate with high capacity. This media has been specifically designed for analytical applications and this borosilicate glass fiber media has no added extractables to aid in the elimination of sample contamination. Excellent wet strength. Common usage includes gravimetric analysis of air pollutants and membrane pre-filters. Also used for testing dissolved and suspended solids in wastewater.

Multi-purpose Filter Medium

RG

This laminated glass product is a high efficiency multi-purpose filter medium with good heat resistance. Demonstrating a retention rate of 1-2µm, it is particularly recommended for both gas and liquid filtration in the medical field and for monitoring applications. The base material consists of glass microfibers with 3-7% acrylic resin binder. The supporting scrim is a 0.5 oz/yd2 Reemay, a high strength spun bonded polyester nonwoven. The scrim can be applied to either side depending on the filter design. Also, the scrim is bonded to the glass media using a polyester hot melt which has a melting point of 325° F. This media has become the standard for monitoring the air in and around nuclear reactors and materials.

C-42

This is a high efficiency multi-purpose filter material demonstrating retention rates of 1-2µm with very good heat resistance. The basis weight and thickness are higher than normal to provide greater filter capacity. This grade is recommended for applications where some depth penetration and lower plugging rates are favored over surface removal of particulates. This material consists of borosilicate glass microfibers bonded with low amounts of acrylic resin.

High Capacity Filter Medium

E-13

This is a medium efficiency, high capacity filter medium demonstrating retention rates of 10-12µm and is suitable for applications requiring high air porosity or rapid liquid filtration. This grade is made from a blend of borosilicate glass microfibers, which are bonded by an acrylic resin. It is recommended for ASHRAE applications in the efficiency range of 90-95%.

MultiDensity™ Filter Discs, Standard and Thinner Versions

Using a newly developed production method Tremont produces MultiDensity™ filters with a choice of final retention stages of <0.5μm to 2.7μm (the same as Tremont's binderless glass microfiber line of products).  A thinner MultiDensity™ Filter is now offered that offers faster flow rates.

The unique MultiDensity™ filter has a robust prefilter built-in which captures particulate from >300μm and binds typically difficult to filter substances without clogging such as:

• Lipids (natural oils and waxes)
• Petrochemical oils, tars
• Cellular matter
• Proteins
• Irregularly granular matter
• Viscous suspensions and slurries

The filter has been optimized to meet the extreme demands of high fluidic volume:

• Manifold vacuum filtration
• Short path extraction methods
• Positive pressure devices
• Structured devices such as inline filters & capsules

The flow and drainage rate is exceptionally rapid via its highly irregular surface formation which has high and low points that aid in the reduction of surface loading.

The unique fibers which sit on the outermost surface of the pre-filter side are designed to extend up and add further prefiltration structure similarly to glass floss. In standing solutions the prefilter side resists compaction causing surface plugging found in other common filter configurations.

The filter is free of binders, glues and resins which ensure a higher purity filtrate. These filters demonstrate very low extractables. This filter replaces multi pre-filtration stage products In applications where a series of prefilters are used to prepare sample prior to membrane filtration, saving time and reducing variability in extract signature upon analysis methods.

The borosilicate glass is highly resistive to aggressive solvents, acids* and base with a usable range of 0-14pH and a wide effective temperature range of -200 to 500 °C. **

The final filtration stage is available in the same porosity range of IW Tremont's binderless glass line, including the newly introduced Grade A-83 Nano-Scale filter.
