Specialty Cellulose Media

Grade CFP41a

This quantitative cellulose filter paper is primarily used in air monitoring applications and gravimetric analysis procedures.  They perform separations by entrapping particulate within the random matrix of cellulose fibers within the depth of the media.  This media family is also widely used in methods to prepare samples for further testing using many types of instrumentation.  Due to the hardened surface, this material is suited for smear and wipes applications as well.  These ashless filter papers are manufactured from refined pulp and linters.  They are acid washed and have an extremely low ash content of <0.01%.

Chromatography Paper

This unique media is an ultra-high purity cellulose filter paper.  The proprietary production methods employed produce a media which demonstrates a highly durable surface texture without the high level of organic extractables common to traditional acid-hardening processes.  The alpha cellulose content is a minimum of 97.5% or above and is single source. This media demonstrates excellent lot-to-lot reproducibility.  Material chemistries are verified against a standard using GC techniques prior to papermaking process.

Blotting Paper

This is a smooth surface, naturally hydrophilic, bright white cellulose filter paper with excellent lay-flat characteristics manufactured from carefully selected, fully bleached and chemically-free pure cellulose fiber without additives or binder.  These grades are highly consistent general purpose diagnostic absorbent pad and wick base.  The fiber processing provides high density, high absorbency and very rapid migration with the even density and high grade formation yielding a very consistent and reproducible migration in both Machine Direction and Cross Direction.  It demonstrates a very high speed absorbency of 25 s/1.0 mL minimum- according to TAPPI method T432 cm-09, modified testing for western blot rapidity at 35ml/60 sec. with no additional surfactants or additives necessary to yield high performance surface absorption rates and lateral migration speeds. Available electrophoresis blotter made with pure cotton linter. The uniformity of this media affords a high liquid volume capacity with little to no leakage along strip.

These grades are highly consistent general purpose material that can be used as diagnostic absorbent pad and wick base.  All are smooth surface, bright white cellulose filter paper with excellent lay-flat characteristics.  The material is manufactured from carefully selected, fully bleached and chemically-free pure cellulose fiber without additives or binder.  The fiber processing is designed to allow both small highly-fibrillated material to blend with longer less processed fiber providing high density, high absorbency and very rapid migration.  The even density and high grade formation yields a very consistent and reproducible migration in both Machine Direction and Cross Direction.   Naturally hydrophilic with no additional surfactants or additives necessary to yield high performance surface absorption rates and lateral migration speeds.  The uniformity of this media affords a high liquid volume capacity with little to no leakage along strip.

This material is a highly consistent general purpose diagnostic absorbent pad and wick base.  Smooth surface, bright white cellulose paper.  Material is manufactured from carefully selected, pure cellulose fiber which is fully oxygen bleached and resin free.  Blott grade demonstrates a very high speed absorbency of 25 s/1.0 mL minimum- according to TAPPI method T432 cm-09, modified testing for western blot rapidity at 35ml/60 sec.

The fiber processing is designed to allow both small highly-fibrillated material to blend with longer less processed fiber for a high density, highly absorbent and very rapid migration.  Ideally suited as a sample moisture sink in multi-layer membrane designs.  Well suited as an end-channel wick in microfluidic devices.

Naturally hydrophilic with no additional surfactants or additives necessary to yield high performance surface absorption rates and lateral migration speeds.  The uniformity of this media affords a high liquid volume capacity with little to no leakage along strip.

Applications include membrane backing, sample collection and conveyance of pastes and gels, wicking media for blot apparatus, draw down tests of liquid samples such as paints and adhesives.  Blott is specified in TAPPI T-205 sp-06-Forming handsheets for physical tests of pulp, section 3.9-"Blotting paper"  Also specified in Development of USPS laboratory and pilot-scale testing protocols, 200, Appendix 1A II, no.8, Materials, "Blotters".

Material demonstrates excellent lay-flat characteristics in reel-to-reel processing with very sharp edge held in slitting and die cutting converting processes.  Minimal extraneous fiber or fiber shed is observed in converting and processing.

Blott grade has these additional characteristics

Rapidity:  25s/1.0 mL minimum-according to TAPPI T432 cm-09   Modified testing for western blot rapidity at 35ml/60 sec.

Frazier Permeability:  196 L/m2/sec

Tensile strength:  70lbs MD (machine direction)     45lbs CD (cross direction)
