I.W. Tremont offers a line of high quality membrane filters available in a variety of materials, diameters and pore sizes and suitable for a wide range of applications including cell retention, In Vitro Diagnostics, particle collection, clarification and sterile filtration of aqueous solutions, particulate analysis and microbiological analysis.

I.W. Tremont polymeric nylon and PTFE membranes are cast by leading OEM raw material suppliers who also supply many of the most widely known competitive brands. All materials are held to the highest quality standards with our in house testing and quality assurance using the latest materials science instrumentation. Converting and packaging is performed in Hawthorne, New Jersey to offer the broadest product range with high stock level availability and rapid shipping. Our production method brings exceptional value and quality.

These materials are also offered in custom product variants and OEM. Inclusion of these and other materials within structured devices such as syringe filters and inline housings can be performed quickly with surprisingly low minimums.

The following membrane materials available include:

Mixed Cellulose Ester (MCE)

  • Biologically inert mixtures of cellulose acetate and cellulose nitrate result in membranes with a smoother and more uniform surface than pure nitrocellulose.
  • Easy to handle, less cracking and fracturing than traditional CN membranes.
  • Pure surface with no additional smoothing treatment or surfactants
Membrane in Packaging

Nylon Membrane

  • Supported with a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) scrim for added support.
  • Scrim bonded using unique technique utilizing no bonding agent for purity and chemical compatibility.  Lower extractables.
  • Hydrophilic material eliminates need for wetting agents.
  • Strong protein bonding with high recoveries

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) Membrane

  • Supported with a polypropylene (PP) scrim for easier handling
  • Scrim bonded using unique technique utilizing no bonding agent for purity and chemical compatibility.  Lower extractables.
  • Hydrophobic material is effective in separating polar/nonpolar solvents
  • Aqueous solutions can pass after prewetting with methanol

Polypropylene (PP) Depth Filter

  • 100% High purity PP fiber depth filter with wide chemical compatibility.
  • Highly hydrophilic, rapidly wets and demonstrates fast flow rates.
  • Ideal as a membrane prefilter.  Effective solids capture and retention.

Our Membrane Filter Capabilities

We offer OEM capabilities for engineering, molding and insertion of many additional membrane and membrane/pre-filter options.   We can work with most of our own membrane and specialty materials as well as convert your supplied product.  Please contact us for full engineering capabilities as well as process flow and project management services in this field.

Tremont offers an impressive list of manufacturing capabilities and expertise in glass microfiber and cellulose filter media.  We leverage a longstanding and contractual relationship between several mills to put 6 papermaking machines and formers into production.  With this enormous capacity at our disposal, we are able to take a project from lab bench through pilot scale and ultimately full production with ease.

Our partner mill output exceeds 120 grade variants manufactured in the USA and internationally.   With chemists and scientists of several disciplines, experienced papermakers, the finest controls-on-machine plus a rigorous QA protocol, it is not often a project challenge is beyond our capability.

Paper making capabilities:

  • Paper making machines in flat bed, slant bed, high speed fourdrinier and rotary forming styles
  • Furnish capabilities of: glass blends, cotton cellulose, soft wood, cotton/wood pulp, synthetics
